Judge Garguilo, who began his tenure on the Supreme Court in January 2009, was known for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to justice. His work included overseeing significant cases, such as Commercial, Asbestos, and Coordinated Opioid Litigation. In 2021, he was appointed to the Coordinating Panel, further solidifying his role in guiding complex legal matters.
His contributions also extended to the judicial community, where he was praised for his fair and balanced management of high-stakes trials, including the nation’s largest opioid litigation in Suffolk County. Colleagues admired his intelligence, calm demeanor, and poise, particularly during emotionally charged cases.
Before his judicial career, Judge Garguilo earned his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law in 1977 and worked as a law clerk for Justice Louis Mandarino of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
