Jane Austen Fans Gather in Bath to Celebrate 250th Anniversary of Her Birth with Grand Regency Costumed Ball

The Jane Austen Festival in Bath, UK, has become a focal point for thousands of devoted fans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the legendary author's birth.

Held in September 2025, the 10-day festival is a tribute to Austen’s enduring legacy, attracting fans from across the world, including notable attendees like Bonny Wise from Indiana, who has attended the festival six times. Wise shared, “I started planning a tour four years ago when I realized this was a big year for Jane.”

The festival includes a grand Regency promenade on Saturday, expected to see over 2,000 participants dressed in period costumes. It has drawn visitors of all ages, including a rising number of younger Janeites, as Jane Austen’s works continue to captivate and inspire.

The Hampshire Regency Dancers, led by Chris Oswald, have been preparing meticulously for their performances. As Oswald noted, “People get quite touched because they are walking where Jane Austen actually walked.”

The festival is not just a celebration of the author's life but an opportunity for fans to step back in time, experiencing the elegance of the Regency era. For many, it’s a cherished way to connect with the author’s timeless works and celebrate her legacy.
